  1. Grease an oven proof baking dish (about 2L), so that the buns do not stick to the dish while baking.

  2. Preheat oven to 180°C.

  3. Cut the hot cross buns in half, liberally spread them with butter on one side.

  4. Arrange in the baking dish.

  5. Sprinkle with chocolte and set aside.

  6. Place the cream, egg yolks, castor sugar and vanilla essence in a bowl and mix well.

  7. Pour the cream mixture over the buns.

  8. Bake for 25-35 minutes until slightly golden.

  9. Dust with icing sugar. Serve with ice cream or cream.
