Graça was launched in 1983 as South Africa’s first Mediterranean-style white wine. In product terms, it meant an easy-drinking, uncomplicated wine, which made for an especially refreshing drinking experience. But it was in the brand’s character where Graça made an immediate impact, from the unpronounceable name, to the unique bottle shape, the hand-drawn label, and it’s very distinctive advertising line –“the talking eating drinking laughing singing sharing wine” – a line that has not changed for 28 years! The distinctive cartoon style of its advertising and branding materials also stems from those early days. The brand also built up a loyal following of consumers based on its suitability as a wine that goes well with any food, especially seafood.
Winemaker Deon Boshoff describes it as lively-coloured with flashes of green, a touch of asparagus on the nose and crisp, lemony, off dry flavours. Its petillance gives it a palate-tingling lift. It ensures its enjoyment with a range of foods from pizzas and pastas to fish, shellfish, poultry and cream-based dishes and cheeses.
